Bishop Fintan Gavin has written to priests of the Diocese of Cork and Ross with norms to be effected in response to the spread of the Coronavirus. He asks  that these be implemented with immediate effect. The government announcement requires that the attendance at any event must not exceed one hundred people. Saint Teresa of Calcutta

Today is the Feast Day of Saint Teresa of Calcutta. Many of us still remember her as Mother Teresa. She was born in Macedonia in 1910 & having decided to devote her life to the Lord, she joined the Loreto sisters to become a missionary to India. She was then sent to Ireland to learn English In Rathfarnham, Dublin for two months. She founded the Missionaries of Charity in 1950. She died on September 5th in 1997. Her good work

National Heritage Week at Cathedral Visitor Centre

National Heritage Week takes place all over the country during the coming week. There will be two events held at the Cathedral Visitor Centre. Shandon Area History Group exhibit Cork Through the Ages and Cork Folklore Project will have extra opening hours during the week.  Why not take some time out, come along and enjoy the facilities here. Feast of St Clare

Today is the Feast Day of St Clare. St Clare was the foundress of the  Order of the Poor Clare Sisters. She was born in Assisi in Italy in 1194. She dedicated her life to prayer. St Clare suffered ill health for many years. She is buried under the Basillica of St Clare in Assisi.   Let us pray today for Poor Clare sisters everywhere, especially our own sisters in College Road in Cork.

Annual Devotions at Lee Road Shrine

On Thursday 15th of August on the feast of the Assumption the annual devotions will take place at the Holy Rosary Shrine, Lee Road. Join in reciting the rosary at 6.30pm at the gates of Our Lady’s Hospital. From there you can follow the fifteen mysteries until Mass begins at 7.30 at the shrine. Bishop Fintan Gavin will be the chief celebrant at the Mass and will preach the homily. This shrine was consecrated on the Feast of the Assumption

Canon Kieran Twomey, PP Blackrock, peacefully returned to the Lord on Thursday afternoon June 27th 2019 in Marymount Hospice in the presence of his family. Canon Kieran was born in Ballinlough parish and was ordained a priest of the Diocese of Cork and Ross in 1973. Since then he has served in many parishes in our diocese and was appointed Parish Priest of Blackrock in 2013. His Funeral Mass took place in St. Michael’s Church, Blackrock, on Monday 1st July

Chrism Mass at the Cathedral of St. Mary and St. Anne

On Holy Thursday morning, April the 18th, the priests of the diocese will renew their commitment to priesthood and invite the people to pray for them at the Chrism Mass in the Cathedral at 10.00a.m. This is the only Mass celebrated in the diocese in the morning.
