Bishop Fintan Gavin has written to priests of the Diocese of Cork and Ross with norms to be effected in response to the spread of the Coronavirus. He asks that these be implemented with immediate effect. The government announcement requires that the attendance at any event must not exceed one hundred people. In light of this, all public Weekend Masses in the Diocese of Cork and Ross will be discontinued until further notice. This also refers to St Patrick’s Day.
It is important to note that people are not bound by the Sunday Obligation. Bishop Fintan has asked priests to celebrate Sunday Mass privately for the people of the parish and where available to have it broadcast via webcam in the hope that the people of the parish, while not able to join with the priest physically will be able to join them spiritually in that Mass.
There will be two Sunday Masses live streamed from this group of parishes during this time. These masses will be celebrated privately without a congregation.
- Bishop Fintan hopes to celebrate the 11.30am Mass in the Cathedral each Sunday.
- The Priests of the Parish will celebrate Mass at 10.00am which will be live streamed from Blackpool Church.
Funerals, weddings, baptisms and weekday masses may continue as long as the attendance does not exceed one hundred people.
